In Finland, the police detained the radical nationalist Jan Petrovsky, who was one of the commanders of the sabotage-assault reconnaissance group “Rusich”, which is fighting on the side of Russia in Ukraine. He is suspected of war crimes in Ukraine in 2014-2015. TV channel MTV3 reports this.
According to the journalists, the Russian citizen is in custody. Ukraine requested his extradition.
The Russian Embassy “has been informed about the detention of a Russian citizen in Finland at the request of Kyiv,” RIA Novosti reports.
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies accuse Petrovsky, who fought on the side of the DNR separatists, in crimes committed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2014-2015, including torture and murder of prisoners. This combat group participated in clashes with the Ukrainian volunteer battalion “Aidar” in September 2014.
Fighters of the Rusych SSRG are also involved in the current full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In September of last year, US sanctions were imposed on the group and its leaders Milchakov and Petrovsky for “special cruelty” shown by them during the fighting in the Kharkiv region after the beginning of the Russian aggression.
In December, European Union sanctions were imposed against the commanders of “Rusich” due to the group’s alleged involvement in PMC “Wagner”.
Petrovsky was previously detained in an EU country. This happened in 2016 in Norway, where he lived since 2004. His presence in Norway was considered a threat to national security, and he was deported.
