In France, on February 16, the fifth nationwide protest against the government’s pension reform plans, which involves raising the retirement age, is being held.

Protest actions will again take place in many cities, and in connection with the exit of workers from many industries, disruptions in the work of transport are expected. In particular, up to 80% of long-distance high-speed trains may be cancelled. More than a million people came to the previous most massive protests.
Unions warn that this is only a “prologue” to the biggest protest on March 7, when they invite French people to take to the streets to completely “stop the country”.
At 9 o’clock in the morning, the National Assembly, the lower house of the parliament, returns to the debate and consideration of the project, to which – as of Wednesday evening – 10,936 amendments were proposed. At the beginning, more than 20,000 of them were contributed, but then the deputies withdrew about 5,000 themselves so as not to paralyze the work of the parliament, and about 4,000 were deemed unacceptable.
