In Irkutsk, local residents demanded to dismantle a banner with the letter Z, an unofficial symbol of support for Russia’s war against Ukraine, from the facade of the city theater. Activists have published a form for sending mass appeals to the authorities against the posted construction. The completed documents are sent to the city hall, the service for the protection of cultural heritage objects, deputies of the City Duma and the State Assembly, reports Sibir.Realii.
The authors of the initiative refer to the violation of city regulations, which prohibit placing advertising structures on architectural monuments and covering windows. According to the activists, the theme of symbols with the letter Z is not touched on, so that residents are not accused of an anti-war stance.
The banner on the building of the Irkutsk Academic Drama Theater appeared in April 2022. Eggs were thrown at my ego and greens poured over it.
Representatives of the theater community twice anonymously sent a letter to the committee on urban planning policy with a request to remove the sign, but the mayor’s office did not respond to the appeals.
