Medinsky is ready to correct his history textbook

Chairman of the Chechen Parliament Magomed Daudov claims that on the initiative of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, supported by the presidential administration, a working group will be created to make changes to the chapter of the Russian history textbook for 10-11 grades, dedicated to repressed peoples.

As Daudov, known as Lord, wrote in his Telegram channel, “the updated textbook on the history of Russia for 10-11 classes has unleashed a wave of indignation” among representatives of these nations, which is why Kadyrov instructed him to “figure out such an important issue.” According to Daudov, he discussed the textbook both with the head of the Presidential Administration Directorate, Andrey Yaryn, and with one of the authors of the textbook, Vladimir Medinsky. Medinsky, in his words, “admitted that this chapter was taken without changes from the previous editions and assured about his readiness to put it in order.”

Earlier, it was reported that a number of public figures of the North Caucasus made strong protests against the new school textbook on the history of Russia. It states that the basis for Stalin’s deportations of peoples were allegedly “facts of cooperation” of the Karachays, Kalmyks, Chechens, Ingush, Balkars, and Crimean Tatars with the occupying forces of Hitler’s Germany. The text about the repressed peoples is included in the textbook in the section “Auxiliaries of the Occupiers”.

According to the text of the textbook, it was “decided to liquidate the state institutions of these peoples within the USSR and subject them to collective punishment – forced resettlement (deportation) to the eastern regions of the country. As a result, not only bandits and accomplices of the enemy, but also many innocent people were repressed.”

In public reactions to the text of the textbook, members of the public emphasize its untruthfulness and tone that is insulting to peoples who have experienced repression. Kavkaz.Realii gives a number of quotes. Daudov wrote that “some “public figures” are trying to shake up the situation on this topic,” and thanked the authorities for resolving the issue. It is not clear from his words when and how the textbook will be corrected. There are no comments from Medinsky himself yet.

The press in Hungary spoke out against the statements about the suppression of the Hungarian uprising of 1956. The textbook was also criticized by Russian nationalists, accusing its authors of a pro-Soviet interpretation of a number of events, and anti-war Russians – in connection with the chapters devoted to the annexation of Crimea and the war in Ukraine, which repeat the theses of official Russian propaganda.
