In Kamchatka, a former citizen of Ukraine lost his Russian citizenship

In Kamchatka, the citizenship of a local resident who had previously renounced Ukrainian citizenship was retained. The court sentenced him to four years in prison under the general regime in the case of extremist statements on the Internet, reports the press service of the FSB in Kamchatka.

According to the special service, from June 2020 to February 2022, the man called for the “shooting, killing, burning of all Russians and representatives of the authorities” on the Vkontakte social network. It is clarified that he received Russian citizenship in 2014, having renounced Ukrainian citizenship.

The case was considered by the 1st Eastern District Military Court in Khabarovsk on two articles: on the public justification of terrorism and calls to extremism.

Earlier, a native of one of the CIS countries, who received a passport in 2009, was left with Russian citizenship in Kamchatka. According to the investigation, he edited videos on social networks “approving the actions of militants on the territory of the Chechen Republic, including the brutal murders of Russian servicemen.” Ego was sentenced to 3 years in a general regime colony.

• In April 2023, the State Duma adopted a law allowing the acquisition of citizenship to be revoked for crimes against the state. In particular, citizenship can be left for the “discrediting” of the army, calls for extremism, desertion, and an attempt on the life of a statesman.
