In Moscow, the brothers of ex-senator Arashukov were sentenced to long terms

In Moscow, the court sentenced two brothers of the former member of the Federation Council from Karachay-Cherkessia Rauf Arashukov to long terms of imprisonment on charges of participation in a criminal community and embezzlement.

Rauf Arashukov’s cousin, the general director of Gazprom gazoraspredelenie Astrakhan, Ruslan Arashukov, received 16.5 years in a strict regime colony, and Beslan Arashukov, the third cousin, ex-deputy director of the branch of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz Stavropol, received 16 years.

In addition, the Transfiguration Court of Moscow convicted eleven more people, among them – people from the Arashukov family and former employees of regional divisions of “Gazprom Mezhregiongaz” in the North Caucasus. Former general director of the company Igor Travinov received the longest prison term, 19 years in a high-security prison.

• Rauf Arashukov was detained in January 2019 right during a meeting of the Federation Council, he was charged with participating in a criminal organization that embezzled 30 billion rubles worth of natural gas and organizing murders. Criminal cases were also initiated against his father, Raul Arashukov. In total, charges were brought against twenty people.
• In December 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced Raul and Rauf Arashukov to life imprisonment. The defendants pleaded not guilty. During the investigation, both claimed that the conditions of detention in the pretrial detention center were inadequate and that they were under pressure.
