The investigation was resumed in the case of the ex-rector of Shaninka, Sergei Zuev

The court in Moscow reopened the investigation into the embezzlement case against the former rector of Shaninka, Sergey Zuev, and the former official of the Ministry of Education, Maryna Rakova. This is reported by “Novaya Gazeta”.

Today, March 5, the accused should have announced the verdict. The prosecutor’s office requested 8 years of prison for Rakova, 6.5 years for Zuev, and 3 to 5.5 years of imprisonment for the other five.

The case is being investigated under the article on fraud in person on a large scale. All the defendants previously pleaded guilty and paid restitution. The judge motivated the decision to reopen the investigation by the fact that it is necessary to further investigate the characteristics of all the accused, and also clarify the position of one of them.

According to the investigation, Rakova, working in the Ministry of Education, secured the allocation of budget funds for the Fund for New Forms of Educational Development, which she headed. With this money, the fund ordered work from a subcontractor – Shaninka. The investigation claims that the work was paid for, but not performed. Thus, according to the investigation, more than 40 million rubles were stolen.

Rakova and Zuev were detained in October 2021. Rakova was in the pre-trial detention center for almost an hour. Zuev was also sent to a pre-trial detention center, but later transferred to house arrest. In November 2022, the Moscow City Court softened the restraining order. Rakova was released from pre-trial detention center, and Zuev was released from house arrest.
