In Novosibirsk, the third breakthrough of heat supply pipes occurred in a day. More than 150 houses remain without heating and hot water. The authorities introduced a state of emergency.

According to the governor of the Novosibirsk region, Andrey Travnikov, the breakthrough occurred when the heating system was filled after the previous accident. On Wednesday, January 17, a pipe with hot water burst on the same street – 14 people received burns, three were hospitalized. Then about two hundred apartment buildings were left without heat.

According to the Novosibirsk City Hall, the heat supply has been turned off in 158 houses, and it is scheduled to be turned off in another 81. The majority of houses plan to restore the heat supply by tomorrow morning.

In addition, as Sibir.Realii reports, residents of more than 20 houses in the Tykhy Tsentr neighborhood on the right bank of the Ob River in Novosibirsk faced a power outage.

The day before, the authorities of Novosibirsk banned a rally against the city’s heat being turned off, because it “may threaten the foundations of the constitutional system.” The townspeople planned to hold the campaign “Organize! Otherwise, we’ll freeze!” January 20 in Hyde Park, where the approval of the authorities is not required.

Since the beginning of the year, major utility accidents have occurred in at least 43 regions of Russia. Utilities experts explained that in 2023, the wear and tear of heating networks in Russian regions could reach “almost 100%.” Since the 1990s, the repair of heating lines has been only emergency – despite the fact that the pipes must be changed every 25 years, the interlocutors of Sibir.Realii noted.
