In Omsk, a mobilized person was sentenced to 1.5 years for delaying his leave

The Omsk Garrison Military Court sentenced the man who had been mobilized to a colony-settlement for one and a half years under the article on involuntary desertion. On the court’s website, it is reported that serviceman Gavrilov stayed in his native village to support his father after his mother’s funeral.

It is known that after the leave granted to him by the commander, he stayed at home for a period of less than a month, but longer than 10 days. The press service of the court does not specify how many days of leave were allocated to the mobilized person for his mother’s funeral. Gavrilov himself arrived at the military investigative department of the Omsk garrison in November 2022 and pleaded guilty.

• After the start of mobilization, announced by President Vladimir Putin on September 21, 2022, Article 337 of the Criminal Code of Russia included part 5 “unwillingly leaving a part or place of service by a military person during the period of mobilization or conducting hostilities”, which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment.
• Russian soldiers are regularly judged on it, even for short-term tardiness. In March, the Perm Garrison Court sentenced a serviceman from Buryatia to five years in a general regime colony for leaving his post during military operations. According to the press service of the department, at the same time, the court convicted two more soldiers in similar cases – they were sentenced to 5 and 5.5 years in prison. At the end of December, the Yuzhno-Sakhalin Garrison Military Court sentenced the serviceman to three years in a colony-settlement. He escaped from the location of a military unit in the Belgorod region to avoid being sent to war with Ukraine.
