In Paris, near the Louvre, a copy of Navalny’s SHIZO camera was installed

In Paris, on a square near the Louvre, a copy of the prison in which the opposition politician Alexei Navalny is periodically placed in the colony in the Vladimir region was set up.

The installation, which shows the conditions of the politician in the colony, will be on the square until March 29. Ivan Zhdanov, director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, spoke at its opening, the Syrena Telegram channel reports.

“When you tell a Western audience what a Russian prison is like, few people understand that it in itself is already torture conditions. And we decided to show it. The political regime in Russia, the freedom of Alexei Navalny and Putin’s ongoing war against Ukraine are interconnected “, Zhdanov’s words are quoted by “Syrena”.

In January of this year, Navalny’s associates who remain at large and now live abroad started an international campaign for his release #FreeNavalny. At the same time, they demand the release of all political prisoners in Russia. As part of the campaign, Alexei Navalny’s brother Oleg, as well as Leonid Volkov, delivered a copy of the SHIZO to the Russian embassy in Berlin on January 24. The installation subsequently began to be transported around Europe, it has already visited Dusseldorf.

• One of the leaders of the Russian opposition, Alexey Navalny, has been in prison since February 2021. Since then, he has repeatedly complained about the conditions of detention in the colony, which his lawyers and associates call “torture”. The oppositionist, in particular, claimed that he was being asked about insomnia, was not provided with medical care, was deliberately placed in his cell with prisoners suffering from various diseases and who did not follow personal hygiene, and was also not allowed to communicate with defenders and relatives.
• Since August of last year, the administration of Vladimir Colony No. 6 has sent Navalny to a penal isolation cell more than ten times – a cell measuring 2 by 3 meters, where the prisoner has to sit on an iron stool. The oppositionist spent more than a hundred days in the SHIZO, which affected his health. Navalny’s lawyer said that his client’s eyesight has deteriorated, he has stomach pains and has lost several kilograms.
• At the moment, several criminal cases are being investigated against Navalny. Among other things, the Russian authorities accuse him of terrorism and extremism. In total, the accused politician can spend about 30 years in prison. He calls the criminal prosecution political.
