The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced serviceman Ilya Trachuk to 14 years in a strict-regime prison for treason and stripped him of his military rank of corporal.

The case was heard in general order and behind closed doors, as his materials contain the word “secret”, the TASS agency reported.

Corporal Trachuk was accused of two episodes of illegally obtaining information constituting a state secret. He was detained on April 1, 2022 by military counterintelligence.

Also on Tuesday, the state agency reported the arrest by FSB investigators in the framework of a criminal case of treason against a Russian man mentioned in the court file of the Lefortovsky Court in Moscow. The decision on the request for arrest has not yet been made. Details are not given, except for the surname and first initials of the name and patronymic – A.S. Dovgan.

  • After the start of the war in Ukraine, the cases of accusing Russian citizens of treason became more frequent. According to Yevgeny Smirnov, the lawyer of the “First Department”, now the issue of state change is stirred up more in a month than before the war – in an hour.
  • Earlier, experts told the Kavkaz.Realii project that, despite the obvious activation of special services in search of “Ukrainian agents”, the real number of cases for extremism and treason, initiated due to ties with Ukraine, will be known only after two years.
