Russian military courts have already received 471 criminal cases about the involuntary abandonment of a unit during the mobilization of Russians for the war in Ukraine. Every month things are getting bigger, Mediazona calculated.
Cases under the article on self-defense make up 88% of all cases for crimes “during the period of mobilization.” 225 of them have already been sentenced. “Mediazone” managed to find only 86: the courts close many processes and documents, referring to secrecy. Two servicemen in Kamchatka were given the longest terms found – seven years of actual imprisonment.
The punishment depends on the time for which the soldier left the unit. For the absence of more than a month (and such cases are more than half), the law provides up to ten years of imprisonment: after the start of mobilization, the punishment was increased. Judging by the statistics collected by “Mediazona”, most often these terms are real, only a third of the sentences are conditional.
At the same time, for an absence of up to ten days, a maximum of two years is given, and most of the terms are conditional, the rest – in the colony-settlement.
The largest number of cases under the article on self-help were initiated in the Moscow region – 39, in the Kaliningrad, Samara and Chelyabinsk regions there were more than twenty such cases. At the same time, not a single case under this article has been opened in 25 regions of Russia, including Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine.
The remaining 12% of cases for crimes “during the period of mobilization” were instituted under the criminal articles of disobeying an order, violence against a commander, and desertion. There are also individual cases of violation of statutory rules and loss of military property. In total, “Mediazone” managed to find 536 such cases.
