The Sverdlovsk Regional Court overturned an administrative fine of 30,000 rubles imposed on Ihor Pushkarev, the director of the Museum of History of Yekaterinburg, under the protocol on the discrediting of the army. This is reported by “Kommersant-Ural”.
As stated in the press service of the court, the proceedings in the case were terminated “due to the insignificance of the offense.”
The protocol on the article on the discrediting of the army against Pushkarev was drawn up in December 2022 because of the picture “No war!”, which he posted on Facebook on the day of the beginning of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. In January, the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg imposed a fine on him.
A few days before Pushkarev was charged, the founder and sponsor of PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin wrote a letter to Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexei Orlov. Prigozhin demanded that Pushkarev be removed from his post, accusing him of spreading “unreliable and defamatory information about PMC Wagner”, an anti-war position, criticism of the Russian authorities and support for opposition politician Alexei Navalny. Pushkarev was not fired, but an administrative case was opened against him under the article on discrediting the army .
Before moving to work at the museum in December of last year, Pushkarev was a journalist for Znak.com, which suspended its work after the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
At the same time, the editor of It’s My City, Dmitry Kozelev, believes that the court’s decision was made after the conflict between the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Yevgeny Kuivashev, and Yevgeny Prigozhin, who advised the founder of PMC “Wagner” not to interfere in regional management and personnel policy. “If every businessman who earns money from the school issue tries to run the country, we will not get far. Everyone should do their own thing. You make meatballs and cook pasta, and we in the regions will figure it out ourselves,” said the governor of the Sverdlovsk Region.
