The official Russian institution for the first time confirmed the death of one of the sailors of the large landing ship “Novocherkassk” after a missile attack on the port of Feodosia on December 26, 2023. According to unofficial data, more than 30 sailors could die then.
The death of one of its graduates who served at “Novocherkassk” was confirmed on its website by the Pushkin Gymnasium from the Russian city of Shakhty (Rostov region). The Krym.Realiya edition drew attention to this. The website of the gymnasium reports that the deceased is senior sailor Igor Meshcheryakov. He graduated from this educational institution in 2017.
“From August 2021, he served in the 197th brigade of large landing ships of the Russian Navy, BDK Novocherkassk, with the rank of sailor,” the site reports. It also says that Meshcheryakov died on December 26, 2023 – the day of the rocket attack on Feodosia – and notes that he was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.
Thus, according to Krym.Realii, Meshcheryakov became the first sailor of the “Novocherkassk” whose death was officially confirmed.
