Two new criminal cases of state treason were initiated on Tuesday in Russia, The Insider reports.

In the first case, the FSB detained a resident of the city of Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Region. According to the intelligence service, the suspect, whose name has not been released, “gave information to foreign intelligence services” about the methods and routes of transporting military equipment to Ukraine. At the same time, the FSB published footage of the detention, which shows the US anthem copied by someone by hand.

A little later, the FSB reported on the detention of a 42-year-old resident of Volgograd: according to the investigation, he was planning to leave for Ukraine and join the Armed Forces. Judging by the operational video published by the special service, the man was detained in the vestibule of the passenger train.

  • Human rights activists have repeatedly noted that the number of criminal cases of treason and espionage has increased sharply in Russia recently. In 2023, at least 148 people were accused of them – this is a record for the entire recent history of the country.
