In St. Petersburg, an activist went on a picket in support of political prisoners

A picket was held in St. Petersburg in support of political prisoners in Russia. The activist came out with a poster in the center of the city – near the Kazan Cathedral. This is reported by Sever.Realii. The name of the activist is not specified.
The poster listed people who are imprisoned for political reasons: Karelian researcher of Stalinist repressions Yury Dmitriev, St. Petersburg activist Victoria Petrova, politicians Ilya Yashin, Aleksey Navalny, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Andrey Pivovarov, Aleksey Gorinov and Liliya Chanysheva.
According to eyewitnesses, many passers-by asked the picketer how to help political prisoners. Only two men spoke negatively, one of them had a patch on his jacket with a symbol of support for the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine – the Latin letter “Z”.
- In December 2021, the court sentenced historian Yury Dmitriev to 15 years in prison. He was found guilty of making child pornography, lewd acts, and possession of weapons. The human rights defender and historian was previously acquitted of all these articles. Dmitriev denies guilt on all charges. His supporters are convinced that all the cases against him were fabricated by the authorities as revenge for his human rights activities.

- Petersburg politician Andrey Pivovarov was found guilty of operating an undesirable organization, he was sentenced to four years in prison.
