Norway announced a five-year plan to help Ukraine worth 7 billion dollars

The Norwegian government has developed a five-year plan to help Ukraine in the amount of 75 million kroner – that’s more than seven billion dollars. According to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Støre, Ukraine will receive a tranche of 15 billion kroner every year. In 2023, half of this amount will be used to cover military needs, the other half – for humanitarian aid.

Støre told Reuters that this is Norway’s largest aid program to another country. He also said that the funding will be distributed according to the priorities set by the Ukrainian government, but not necessarily transferred to the state authorities in order to avoid the threat of corruption. Yes, tranches for humanitarian needs can go directly to organizations working in this area.

The plan will be approved by the Norwegian parliament in the coming weeks. The main opposition party in the parliament – the Conservative Party – has already announced that it will support the project.

• Norway is the second largest oil producer in Europe (after Russia). In 2022, it became the largest supplier of gas to the European Union after Russian gas supplies were reduced to almost zero. Proceeds to the National Welfare Fund of Norway from energy exports amounted to 108 billion dollars last year, almost three times the previous record of 2008.
