In the new package of sanctions, the EU proposes to stop the transportation of oil along the northern branch of “Druzhba”

The European Union proposed to officially stop the transportation of Russian oil to Germany and Poland. This norm may be included in the 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, Bloomberg reports.

According to EC sanctions, Germany and Poland were allowed to continue receiving oil through the northern section of the Druzhba oil pipeline. Despite this, both countries have already suspended the receipt of oil, fulfilled preliminary promises to reduce the volume.

According to the documents available to the agency, there is a proposal to officially prohibit the transportation of oil from the Russian Federation to these countries.

And although such a step would be largely symbolic, it was the shutdown that forced several refineries to engage in complex logistics to gain access to alternative oil.

At least one of them, the PCK Schwedt plant near Berlin, was forced to produce less fuel for the region it served.

Exceptions allowing flows through the southern branch of the line, which provides oil to Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, will remain in force.

Transportation of oil through “Druzhba”

Last year, on average, Germany and Poland imported about 480,000 tons through Druzhba. barrels per day. The three countries connected to the southern branch, on average, imported about 290,000 barrels per day. This level decreased this year.

After the cessation of Russian oil supplies due to “Druzhba” in February, a small amount of Kazakh oil went through the oil pipeline. Oh, it will not be banned, since imports from other third countries, including the transit of oil through Russia, are not prohibited.
