An accidental explosion killed 12 marines from the Primorsky Krai at a training ground in the Rostov Region. This is reported by 161.ru with reference to sources in law enforcement structures, the army and investigative bodies.

The explosion of one of the shells of the RPG-7 grenade launcher at the Kuzminsky military training ground near Rostov-on-Don took place on November 3. The next day, one of the soldiers who were at the training ground told the 161.ru about this, but then the editorial staff could not promptly verify his words. It was possible to confirm the information only by the end of November.

“About 20 people from [бригады морской пехоты] lit a bonfire during the lunch break next to the ammunition blocks. The shell of the RPG-7 grenade launcher rolled into the fire and exploded,” said one of the publication’s sources.

According to him, eight people died on the spot, eight more were wounded. Four seriously wounded soldiers died in the hospital within a few days. After the incident, the commander of the Pacific Fleet, Admiral Viktor Lyina, visited the place.

Another editorial source reported that the death of 12 contractors is being investigated by the main military investigative department of the Investigative Committee. Investigators consider non-compliance with safety precautions to be the preliminary reason. The Ministry of Defense did not comment on what happened.
