The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine opened criminal cases of violation of the laws and customs of war and intentional murder in connection with the publication of a video on which, presumably, Russian soldiers are shooting Ukrainian prisoners of war.

The day before, several Telegram channels published footage taken from a drone, in which three people, dressed in military uniforms and kneeling on the ground, are shot at by people dressed in other uniforms from a distance of several meters.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine claims that they have established the fact that Russian soldiers shot captured Ukrainian soldiers who did not resist the enemy. The department also believes that the crime was committed in December 2023 near the village of Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia did not comment on the charges.

The mass media note that this is the second time since the beginning of December that Ukraine accuses Russia of shooting prisoners of war. On December 2, a video allegedly shot in the area of the village of Stepnoye in the Donetsk region appeared on the Internet, in which several Russian soldiers allegedly shoot two surrendered servicemen who came out of the dugout under the muzzles of machine guns.

The Russian side then also did not comment on what happened.

  • On December 13, the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty published a video shot by a drone in the Zaporozhye region, in which a group of Russian soldiers is likely to use captured Ukrainian soldiers as human shields during an attack on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Presumably, one of the prisoners died.
  • In Ukraine, about 50,000 criminal cases are being investigated for alleged crimes, including the murder of prisoners committed by the Russian military. The Ministry of Defense of Russia rejected any such accusations.
