In Ukraine, assets of Medvedchuk’s wife worth 27 million dollars were seized

A court in Ukraine seized the assets of former TV presenter Oksana Marchenko, the wife of pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk, in the amount of more than one billion hryvnias (more than 27 million dollars). This was reported to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

We are talking about 13.7% of the shares of Zaporizhzhya Ferroalloy Plant, one of the largest enterprises in Europe. According to the agency, Marchenko owns shares through four offshore companies.

“Seizure of assets will protect them from sale or re-registration to fictitious persons and in the future will allow them to be transferred to the benefit of our state,” the SBU said in a statement.

At the end of March, a court in Ukraine seized Marchenko’s assets with a total value of 440 million hryvnias ($11.9 million). Then the SBU reported that the court’s decision concerns 6.8% of the shares of OJSC “Dneprospetsstal Electrometallurgical Plant named after A.M. Kuzmin” in Zaporizhia, which Marchenko controls through three offshore companies. In February, the court seized Marchenko’s property worth more than 5.6 billion hryvnias (152.4 million dollars).

Marchenko is suspected of financing actions committed with the goal of violent change or overthrow of the constitutional system or seizure of state power, changes in the territory or state borders of Ukraine.

• Medvedchuk is one of the leaders of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party, which was banned after the war. His friendship with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, is known as the godfather of Medvedchuk’s daughter. Since May 2021, Medvedchuk has been under house arrest in a criminal case of treason. Three days after the start of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, it became known about his escape. In April 2022, he was detained and subsequently arrested by the court. In September, the Ukrainian side exchanged Medvedchuk for captured Ukrainian servicemen.
