In “VKontakte” access to “Tatu” was restricted; cartoon about ponies is now 18+

After recognizing the non-existent LGBT+ movement as extremist, VKontakte restricted access to the content of the Tatu group, and Kinopoysk marked the animated series about ponies as “18+”

The official VK community of the Russian Tatu group, which in the 2000s used the image of lesbians, blocked access to its posts, photos and videos. “Sota” drew attention to this. A year ago, after the adoption of the law on the prohibition of “LGBT+ propaganda”, the community administrators voluntarily deleted all shots of soloists kissing, the publication notes.

The online cinema “Kinopoysk” marked “18+” on the animated series “My Little Pony: Friendship is a Miracle”, which means that it is recommended only for adults. As Mediazone explained, the labeling is related to “new legislative restrictions.” “Sota” suggests that the reason could be one of the heroines of the animated series – the blue Rainbow Dash with wings, a rainbow mane and the same tail.

• On November 30, the Supreme Court of Russia recognized the defunct international LGBT+ movement as extremist and banned its activities in Russia.
• Recognition of an extremist organization means, among other things, a ban on the demonstration of its symbols, and any non-negative assessment can be interpreted as a justification of extremism or calls for extremist activity.
• Since the “international public LGBT movement” does not exist, it is not clear which organizations and exactly how the ban on its activities will be affected. Some lawyers did not rule out risks for specialized human rights organizations and visitors to LGBT clubs. Fears are also expressed for LGBT people simply living in Russia.
