Valentina Matviyenko ruled out the ban on abortions in Russia

[ad_1]

The Russian authorities do not intend to prohibit abortions, as this will not solve the problem in the field of demography. This was stated by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko.

“I am absolutely sure that no prohibitions, pressure, campaigning, criminalization of legislation in this area can and will not be able to solve this problem. The government will definitely not go down this path,” Matviyenko is quoted as saying by “Interfax”.

At the same time, she emphasized that it is impossible to allow abortion services to “go underground”. In Russia, according to her, “there is already an experience that ended with sad consequences: this is an illegal service market, cave-like quality, and an increase in female mortality.”

According to Matviyenko, women “cannot be deprived of the right to choose” where to have an abortion – in a private or state clinic, since they all work according to the same medical standards.

At the same time, the head of the Federation Council expressed the opinion that abortions should be performed only on medical grounds and in the case of violence against women.

According to Matviyenko, it is necessary to lower the intensity of rhetoric and move the discussion of this issue to the level of common sense and professionalism, which would exclude mistakes and ill-considered proposals.

  • Russian authorities are actively discussing measures to restrict women’s rights to abortion. The question reached the State Duma. Recently, fines for propensity to abortion were introduced in Mordovia and Tver region. Private clinics in Tatarstan, Kursk and Chelyabinsk regions and annexed Crimea have already refused to perform abortions.
  • The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill proposed introducing a federal ban on the “inclination” to abortion, and Senator Margarita Pavlova said that “it is necessary to stop orienting girls to higher education” so that their “procreative function” is not neglected.
