International FBK is included in the register of undesirable organizations

The Ministry of Justice of Russia entered the International Anti-Corruption Foundation of Alexei Navalny (Anti-Corruption Foundation International) into the register of undesirable organizations.
According to the data of the register, which, in particular, drew attention to the telegram channel “Ostrozhno, novosti” on Thursday, the decision was made on May 22.
In connection with this information, the publication “Meduza” notes that the first thing about the fact that the organization has been declared “undesirable” in Russia is usually reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office. Then the organization is entered in the register of the Ministry of Justice. In the case of the International FBK from the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia, there was no such message.
Last December, Anti-Corruption Foundation Inc was declared a foreign agent in Russia.
The team of opposition politician Alexei Navalny announced the creation of the International Anti-Corruption Fund in July 2022. activists noted that this non-governmental structure will fight corruption and “Putin’s” power in Russia.
The first contribution to the fund’s work was 50,000 euros from the Sakharov Prize, which was awarded to Navalny by the European Parliament in December 2021. The fund’s supervisory board includes the former prime minister of Belgium, member of the European Parliament Guy Verhofstadt, Pulitzer Prize laureate American-British journalist Anne Appelbaum, philosopher and political scientist Francis Fukuyama and wife of the oppositionist Yulia Navalnaya.
- The Law on Undesirable Organizations has been in force in Russia since 2015. The work of structures that the authorities enter into the relevant register is prohibited in the country. Participation in the activities of an undesirable organization is punishable by a fine of up to 500,000 rubles, and in the case of a repeated episode – up to four years of imprisonment. At the same time, the wording of what exactly can be considered participation is vague in the law.
