The European Union demanded an urgent audit of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA. A representative of the European Commission announced on Monday that the agency’s funding will be reviewed.

The other day, Israel accused some of the agency’s employees of involvement in the actions of Hamas on October 7. The radical Palestinian group Hamas is recognized by the United States, Great Britain and the EU as a terrorist organization.

In the statement of the European Commission, it is noted that the executive power of the EU will determine the upcoming decision on the financing of UNRWA, taking into account serious accusations of the involvement of UNRWA employees in the October terrorist attacks, reports the Russian service “Voice of America”.

At the same time, the provision of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank will continue through partner organizations, the statement said.

In a dossier compiled by Israeli intelligence and seen by Reuters, it is claimed that approximately 190 UNRWA employees, including teachers, were also Hamas or Islamic Jihad fighters. The file contains the names and photos of 11 of them.

The Palestinians accused Israel of falsifying information to discredit UNRWA.

The head of the Foreign Ministry of Israel said that the director of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarin, should resign.
