Ivan Kudryashov’s lawyer found him in a psychiatric ward

The lawyer of the anti-war activist Ivan Kudryashov, who was sentenced to six years in a strict regime colony, found his client in an immobilized state in the psychiatric department of the FSIN regional hospital in Torzhka, Tver region. This is reported by the human rights project “Solidarity Zone”.

Maksym Kharchenko could not find out the diagnosis given to Kudryashova, as well as what he was being “treated”, since there were no doctors in the hospital during the lawyer’s visit.

The activist was unexpectedly taken out of the Tver pre-trial detention center on July 27. The escorts told the lawyer that Kudryashov was placed in a psychiatric ward due to allegedly inappropriate behavior. They argue that he has to be tied up because he becomes violent and can harm himself.

Ivan Kudryashov was hospitalized in the FSIN hospital on the tenth day after leaving the 40-day hunger strike. He announced it as a sign of protest after the head of the Tver pre-trial detention center refused to receive him to discuss issues of inmate rights. After the prosecutor’s promise to fulfill his legal demands, Kudryashov ended his hunger strike.

• On June 21, a military court sentenced Ivan Kudryashov, an activist from Tver, to six years in a high-security prison in the case of preparing to set fire to the military enlistment office. According to the court’s decision, Kudryashov will spend two years and six months in prison, the rest of the term in a colony.
• According to the investigation, Kudryashov was going to set fire to the military enlistment office as a sign of protest against mobilization. He was arrested on September 30 last year. According to Kudryashov, he signed the confession under torture, and bottles with incendiary mixture were thrown at him during his detention. The Investigative Committee of the Tver region refused to open a criminal case about torture.
