Japan will provide $3.5 billion in financial aid to Ukraine in 2023

During 2023, Japan plans to provide Ukraine with financing in the amount of 3.5 billion dollars.
This was reported by the results of the meeting of the Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko with his Japanese counterpart Sunichi Suzuki press service Ministry of Finance.
Suzuki confirmed that the Japanese government plans to send $3.5 billion in direct budget support to Ukraine in 2023. These funds will make it possible to finance priority, in particular, social and humanitarian expenses.
It is noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Japan has already provided Ukraine with 581 million dollars in preferential financing.
In addition, the parties discussed the needs of the Ukrainian budget for the priority areas of recovery and reconstruction of the country.
Marchenko emphasized that in order to implement rapid recovery in 2023, Ukraine is counting on the support of international partners and the private sector. External financing is currently key to maintaining macroeconomic stability due to significant increases in defense spending.
Instead, representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Japan declared their readiness to support Ukraine in reconstruction, in particular through potential joint projects with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
According to a joint assessment of the government, the World Bank, the European Commission and the UN, in 2023 Ukraine needs $14.1 billion for rapid recovery.
