Journalist Azar is being investigated for discrediting the army

The Investigative Committee of Russia has started an investigation against journalist Ilya Azar under the criminal article of discrediting the Russian army. This is reported by “Baza” and RIA “Novosti” with reference to sources.
Earlier, Azar was fined twice under the administrative article on discrediting the army – in connection with his anti-military posts on social networks. According to Russian legislation, in case of repeated discrediting, a criminal case may be initiated. Now the journalist is abroad.
According to Bazy, Azar is being investigated because of his Facebook post on June 3, 2022, the 100th anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In the post, in particular, Azar called the war in Ukraine “senseless, senseless, disgusting” and called on the Russian authorities to “stop killing children, old people, women, men in Ukraine and destroy the future of our country.”
Azar commented on the news of the investigation on Facebook, writing: “After two administrative charges for the “discrediting” of the Russian army due to two spring posts on Facebook, the criminal case for the summer posts was a matter of time. And even without a criminal case (or at least the status of an foreign agent ) now it’s just a shame.”
