The artistic director of the Krasnoyarsk Theater of the Young Spectator, Roman Feodory, left his position after criticism from the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the region, Elena Penzyna.

In the statement of the theater on October 26, it is stated that Feodory “due to family circumstances is ceasing his activity” as the artistic director of TYUZ. The management of the institution thanked the director “for the meaningful renaissance that the theater experienced.”

On October 24, Yelena Penzina, a member of the Legislative Assembly from “United Russia” in her telegram channel “PenZyna”, proposed to fire Feodory, calling him a “traitor-relocator, coward and traitor.” This is how Penzina reacted to the reading of the play “How we buried Iosif Vissarionovich”, which took place in Israel with the participation of Roman Feodora. According to Penzina, now the director “lives outside of Russia, receives a stipend at the TYU and puts on plays there.” She stated that Feodori “wished the death of the president of our country and called our soldiers cannon fodder.”

On October 25, Penzina posted a photo of Feodora with actor Anatoly Bely and comedian Mikhail Shats, who had left Russia. “This is out of the ordinary – how many wolves don’t feed… Although Feodory is not a wolf, of course, yes, a small thing,” wrote Penzina.

After Feodora’s dismissal, Penzina wrote that the actors of TYUZ “can breathe a sigh of relief”, and the Ministry of Culture thanked her for her “principled position”.

Roman Feodory headed the Krasnoyarsk Theater of the Young Spectator since 2011 as the chief director, and since 2016 as the artistic director.

  • Elena Penzina actively supports the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the session of the National Assembly, she stated that “not all universities understand the task of training military personnel and follow the decree and fulfill their duties formally.” The deputy promised to contact the prosecutor’s office to protect the rights of one of the soldiers who returned from Ukraine.
  • After the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian authorities began to persecute, including cultural figures, who opposed the war. Hundreds of directors, actors, musicians and artists faced the impossibility of engaging in professional activities in Russia and were forced to leave the country. The names of playwrights and directors who spoke out against the war are removed from repertoires and removed from posters.
