The Kursk nuclear power plant was attacked by three drones on Thursday evening. This was reported by the NPP press service on Friday morning.

The telegram channel of the Kursk NPP claims that there are no casualties or damage, the nuclear power plant is operating normally, the radiation background “is at the level of natural values.”

The previous evening, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that three aircraft-type drones had been shot down or intercepted in the Kursk region. It was claimed that one of them fell in the Kurchatov region, where the nuclear power plant is located. The agency did not report the attack on the NPP.

According to the Baza Telegram channel, all three drones attacked the Kursk NPP. The explosive devices carried by two of them were not detonated for some reason. The third drone, the publication claims, exploded near a warehouse with nuclear waste. According to channel sources, the facade of the warehouse building was damaged as a result of the explosion.

This is not the first attack on Kurchatov, which is located approximately 70 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. On July 14, the Russian authorities reported that a drone fell or was shot down a few kilometers from the nuclear power plant. In early September, it was reported that a drone had crashed in Kurchatov. The Russian authorities declare that the city is being attacked by Ukraine. Kyiv does not comment on this.

  • Attacks, allegedly by Ukrainian drones on the territory of Russia, take place against the background of almost daily rocket attacks by the Russian army on Ukrainian cities. Officially, Ukraine does not confirm or deny its involvement in the attacks.
