On Friday, Krasnodar Airport received a civilian plane for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. The plane of the Azimut airline landed in Krasnodar, performed a technical flight on the eve of the opening of the airport to service regular flights, Interfax reports.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 plane arrived from Mineralnyh Vody. There were no passengers on board. Earlier, the administration of the Krasnodar region announced that the Krasnodar airport could resume operations after a test flight on December 15.
It was also expected that on Friday Krasnodar airport will receive another technical flight – from Moscow’s Vnukovo airport.
On December 13, the governor of the region, Veniamin Kondratiev, was the first to announce the possible launch of the airport in Kuban, who also mentioned the test flight of the Azimut airline. At the same time, “Azimut” itself then replied to journalists that they did not have information about the “test flight”, and the airport management company allegedly did not have any documents confirming a possible return to work.
The airport in Krasnodar was closed on February 24, 2022. After the start of the war against Ukraine, civil air traffic in the south of Russia and in the annexed Crimea was suspended, only the airports in Sochi, Stavropol, Volgograd and Mineralnyh Vody remained open. However, the Krasnodar airport was not completely closed: in November, in particular, it received a special flight of the Prime Minister of Belarus, Roman Golovchenko.
According to the Telegram channel Shot, an international terminal will be opened at the airport in the near future – the first flights to Turkey, Armenia and Uzbekistan will be available.
