The Krasnodar airport, closed since the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine almost two years ago, can be opened after a “test flight” on Friday, December 15. Governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Veniamin Kondratiev, told the Shot Telegram channel about this.
Similar information was provided in the press service of the regional administration with reference to the regional Ministry of Transport and Road Management.
On December 15, according to Shot, the airline “Azimut” will conduct a “test flight” from Moscow’s Vnukov to Krasnodar’s Pashkovsky airport. The interlocutor of the Telegram channel claims that “in fact, the safety of flights to Krasnodar has already been checked”, only “a few moments” remain.
However, RBC Azimut Airlines did not confirm this information.
RBC, citing sources in the aviation industry, writes that in addition to Krasnodar, the authorities are considering the option of opening Elista airport soon.
Restrictions on flights within Russia were introduced by Rosaviatsia on February 24, 2022 – the day Russian troops began their invasion of Ukraine. Later they were extended several times. The airports of Krasnodar, Anapa, Gelendzhik, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, Simferopol and Elista remain closed.
In May and September 2023, the Russian government allocated a total of more than five billion rubles to support 11 closed airports. In 2022, seven and a half billion were allocated for these purposes, Vedomosti noted.
