Kyselev and Simonyan Agency registers the “Echo of Moscow” brand

The international news agency “Russia Today”, headed by the host of the “Russia 1” TV channel Dmitry Kiselyov and the editor-in-chief of the RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan, submitted an application for the registration of the “Echo of Moscow” brand. Telegram channel “Sota” drew attention to this. Later, the information was confirmed by the TASS state agency.

It is noted that in the application for registration of the trademark and service mark of Rospatent, the name and logo of the new brand are completely identical to the name and logo of the radio station liquidated by the Russian authorities. At the same time, among the types of activities for which the brand is registered, in addition to the production of media content, services not related to mass media are indicated: rental of equipment for underwater diving to control of oil wells.

The former editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy radio, Alexey Venediktov, commenting on the information that appeared, said that the brand still belongs to the existing CJSC “Ekho Moskvy”, and thus the registration of a new brand cannot be carried out by law. However, Venediktov believes that the authorities will still allow registration.

• The Echo of Moscow radio station, which regularly allowed criticism of Vladimir Putin’s policies on its airwaves, was blocked in March of last year. Later, it was liquidated by the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office due to the fact that, according to the department, it spread false information about the actions of the Russian military on the territory of Ukraine.
