Rosfinmonitoring included the left-wing activist Sergey Udaltsov in the list of persons involved in extremist and terrorist activities. There is an asterisk opposite his last name in the list — this means that Udaltsov was included in the register precisely because of “terrorism,” not “extremism.” His bank accounts will be frozen.
Sergey Udaltsov was arrested on January 12 and sent to a pre-trial detention center until February 15. Ego is accused of justifying terrorism. The reason for the prosecution, as Udaltsov himself told journalists, was his publications on social networks in support of the members of the Marxist circle from Ufa, who were arrested in 2022 on charges of creating a terrorist community.
Udaltsov did not admit his guilt in court. “The investigation treats Marxism as terrorism,” he said. Udaltsov’s lawyer, Violetta Volkova, believes that her client’s actions do not constitute a crime.
Udaltsov may face up to seven years in prison under the article on the justification of terrorism.
- Udaltsov – the leader of the “Levy Front” organization, was one of the notable figures of the protests of 2011-2012, spent more than 4 years in the colony due to the so-called Bolotnoi case. After his release, he was assigned administrative supervision. Udaltsov did not admit guilt.
- Udaltsov opposes the policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, but supports the invasion of Ukraine. He repeatedly spoke out in support of the now-arrested Igor Strelkov (Gyrkin), including advocating that the “left and patriotic forces” consider the possibility of nominating him for the post of president. In recent days, Udaltsov wrote mainly about housing and communal services problems in the Moscow region and criticized the Kremlin in connection with them.
