London lifted sanctions against Lev Khasis, the former top manager of Sberbank

Great Britain lifted sanctions against the former deputy chairman of Sberbank, Lev Khasis. The document on the website of the British government states that previously Khasis had frozen assets, but now these restrictions have been lifted. The reasons for the cancellation of restrictions are not specified.

Khasis fell under British sanctions in March of last year, shortly after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Together with Khasis, the head of Sberbank Herman Gref and the founder of Tinkoff Bank Oleg Tynkov appeared on the same list.

In mid-February last year, Sberbank announced that Khasis decided to leave his post and head the e-commerce holding. The top manager was supposed to finish his work at the bank in June 2022.

In April 2022, the interlocutors of “Vedomosti” reported that Khasis left for the USA immediately after the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Another source told the newspaper that the former top manager left the country before the start of the Russian invasion.

After that, the State Duma instructed the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption to ask the FSB, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Investigative Committee and the government for information on the veracity of the information on the departure of Khasis and other persons with access to the state house, as well as on the legality of such departure in the context of a special military operation (so the Russian authorities called the war against Ukraine).
