Lukashenko pardoned the Russian woman Sofia Sapega

The Russian woman Sofia Sapega, who was imprisoned in Belarus, was pardoned by the decree of the authoritarian leader of the country, Alexander Lukashenko. The BelTA agency reports that she was released from prison and handed over to the Russian delegation that came from the Primorsky Krai.
Primorye Governor Oleh Kozhemyako thanked Lukashenko and said that Sapega got a chance to “start living anew.”
Sofia Sapega, 24 at the time, was detained at the end of May 2021 together with her friend, the former editor-in-chief of the Belarusian opposition Telegram channel NEXTA, Roman Protasevich. The plane in which they flew from Athens to Vilnius was forced to land in Minsk after a false report about the threat of mines on board.
The Belarusian court sentenced her to six years in prison on charges of inciting social enmity, violence or threats of violence against internal affairs officers. Sapeha was also accused of illegally collecting and disseminating information about private life. According to the investigation, the Russian woman moderated the opposition Telegram channel, which published the personal data of employees of the Belarusian security forces.
In April of this year, Sofia Sapega agreed to extradition to Russia. Earlier, she appealed to Lukashenko for clemency, but then her appeal was rejected.
