The Simonovsky Court of Moscow sentenced the ex-owner of the Antipinsky Refinery, Dmitry Mazurov, to 10 years in a strict regime colony.
Mazurov was found guilty of five counts of fraud, protection of someone else’s property and causing serious harm to health. The court also ruled that Dmitry Mazurov must pay 21 billion rubles to Sberbank in the case of fraudulent misappropriation, Kommersant reports.
Mazurov’s lawyer, Timur Hutov, told RBC that the defense does not agree with the sentence and will appeal it soon. The lawyer noted that the position of the investigation was absurd and based on unsubstantiated arguments. He also emphasized that the prosecution’s witnesses at the trial did not confirm the position of the prosecution.
Mazurov is the founder of the Novy Potok company and Russia’s largest independent oil refinery in the Tyumen region. Among his partners were acquaintances of President Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He was detained in 2019. He was charged with embezzling $29 million from Sberbank funds and embezzling 473 million rubles belonging to the Antipinsky Oil Refinery. The criminal case was initiated at the request of the head of Sberbank Herman Gref.

“Sberbank” claimed that the businessman took a large loan for the construction of the refinery and in the end did not return the debt. Mazurov admitted that due to the economic situation associated with the drop in oil prices in 2014, he had to attract additional funds, however, he denied the accusations of fraud and embezzlement, calling the case a “business takeover”.
The investigation also claimed that in 2015, Mazurov organized an attack on Yulia Milshtein, a model-escort from Khabarovsk, in an attempt to “get rid of” her. Alexander Kurilov, who was sentenced by the court to eight years in a strict regime colony, was recognized by the prosecution as the executor of the attack on Milshtein. Kurilov himself denied involvement in the attack. Mazurov also denies guilt.
The state prosecution asked for 16.5 years of strict regime prison for Mazurov, 13.5 years for Kurilov.
