Medvedev: “We used Twitter cynically”

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, former President Dmitry Medvedev said that the Russian authorities “completely cynically” used the Twitter social network to advance their “propaganda goals.”

Such formulations are contained in Medvedev’s answer to a question from the RIA Novosti agency, published in the Politika Telegram channel. The question was why Medvedev’s last post on Twitter was blocked. To this, the former president of Russia replied that the social network “bent under the State Department” and Ukrainians (Medvedev used a pejorative term to denote representatives of this nation). “We’ll do without him. After all, this is just a foreign social network acting in the interests of the American establishment,” Medvedev further stated, stating that Russia’s goal is to defeat “all enemies” and return “all lands”, which he characterized as “ours”.

Twitter earlier hide record in Medvedev’s English-language account, in which it was said that a state like Poland “should not exist for us as long as there is no one in power there, except Russophobes.” Medvedev later published the same entry on his Russian-language account and appealed to the owner of the Twitter corporation Elon Musk to clarify. This record also hidden due to the fact that she violates the rules of Twitter.

At the same time, under Mask, the moderation policy of the social network has changed, and many posts that were previously hidden as offensive are now not hidden. Recently, the billionaire was criticized because Twitter did not limit Medvedev’s second post, in which he wrote that Ukraine should supposedly collapse.

Medvedev became one of the first high-ranking Russian officials to open a Twitter account in 2010. Then he was the president of Russia and enjoyed the reputation of a supporter of “modernization” and innovation. Especially after the start of the war in Ukraine, Medvedev positioned himself as an extreme militarist, constantly issuing threats to Western countries, talking about nuclear war and resorting to whip-lash rhetoric bordering on open-air warfare. Telegram, however, became the main platform for the expressed ego, and not Twitter.
