No restrictions

“The introduction of import restrictions would not solve anything. This would not lead to an increase in holiday prices for Moldovan farmers, nor to a decrease in the cost price. This decision would give zero results,” said the Moldovan minister.

According to him, on the contrary, Ukraine would introduce restrictions on the import of Moldovan products, “and then a lot would be lost.”

The minister also noted that the volume of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine is insignificant: in total, they imported about 177 tons of wheat and 4 thousand tons of sunflower seeds.

Vladimir Bolya also commented on the possible ban on the transit of grain from Ukraine through Moldova. He noted that the authorities of Chisinau do not consider such a step.

“Transit does not affect us negatively. “Thanks to the transit, the Railway of Moldova was able to rehabilitate itself, the company paid the salary and even raised it,” the official explained.

However, according to him, the problem arises with road freight transport, as queues are created at the customs in the direction of Romania.

Let’s remind

Earlier it became known that Moldova plans to join the decision of the European Union on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

On May 2, the European Commission banned the import of four Ukrainian products into five EU states.

In April, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia imposed a temporary ban on the import of grain, oilseeds and other agricultural products from Ukraine to protect their own agricultural producers. A little later, similar measures were introduced by Romania and Bulgaria.
