More than 140 people are accused in the case of mass riots in Makhachkala

Since mid-November, the Supreme Court of Dagestan has received 143 complaints about arrest after the pogrom during the anti-Semitic action at the Makhachkala International Airport. This is reported by Kavkaz.Realii with reference to court data.

A criminal case was initiated under the article on mass riots. The publication clarifies that there may be more accused, since we are only talking about those who are contesting their arrest, the complaints continue to go to court.

It turned out that since December 15, the Supreme Court of Dagestan began to receive collective complaints.

At least three defendants, in addition to participating in riots, are accused of using violence against police officers. Earlier it also became known that one of the residents of Dagestan was accused of an attempt on the life of an employee of the security forces.

Most of the accused deny guilt. In particular, Gadzhi Akhmedulaev points out that the investigation has no evidence of his participation in the riots, the accusation is not specified, and no investigative actions have been conducted with him for more than a month of arrest. The defenders of the other defendants also point out that being at the Uytash airport during the protest in itself does not constitute a crime.

The investigation of the criminal case, which was opened on October 29, is carried out by the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia. The preliminary investigation was extended until the end of April 2024. All this time, the accused may be kept in custody.

• At the beginning of December, the Supreme Court of Dagestan reported that 240 participants in the riots at the airport were brought to administrative responsibility under the article on violation of the rules for holding rallies. 104 of them were arrested for a period of one to 10 days. The data of the Supreme Court of Dagestan differ from the information collected by Kavkaz.Realii on the websites of district courts: as of November 28, the courts had received about 400 cases, most of them had already been considered at that time.
• In the evening of October 29, from several hundred to one and a half thousand people seized the Makhachkala airport, coming there with an anti-Semitic protest before the arrival of a flight from Tel Aviv. They opposed Israel and demanded the expulsion of Jews from Dagestan. The participants of the action demolished the fence and broke into the territory of the airport. During the riots, more than 20 people were injured, 10 of them received serious injuries. Nine police officers were injured.
• Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the anti-Semitic riots in Makhachkala were “largely inspired by the territory of Ukraine through the agents of Western countries.”
