In 21 cities of Russia this year, parades in honor of Victory Day were canceled, although they were held there a year earlier. Due to security concerns, Saratov, Oryol, Kaluga, Ryazan, Lipetsk, Elets, Gusev and Tyumen refused to participate in the event, reports “Vyorstka”.
The authorities of Pskov and Velikiy Luk explained the cancellation of the parades out of concern for “SVO participants”. According to the head of the region, Mykhailo Vedernikov, the participants of the invasion of Ukraine come to these cities for rehabilitation and may perceive fireworks “absolutely differently”. In Kursk, the cancellation of the parade was explained by the “current situation”, and in Belgorod by the reason “not to provoke the enemy with a large concentration of equipment and military personnel.”
The authorities of Bryansk, Krasnodar and Sochi did not explain the cancellation of the festive events. In Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk parades were canceled out of solidarity with other cities.
Also, for security reasons, parades are canceled in the cities of the annexed Crimea.
- Russian regions bordering Ukraine – Kursk, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions – regularly come under fire, causing destruction and casualties. Regional authorities claim that the attacks are being carried out from the Ukrainian side. Kyiv does not comment on these messages.
