A citizen of Kazakhstan was sentenced to 13 years for setting fire to a military enlistment office in Omsk

On May 2, the First Eastern District Military Court sentenced Kazakh citizen Ansagan Moldakhmetov to 13 years in prison in the case of setting fire to the military enlistment office in the center of Omsk. He will spend the first three years in prison, the rest in a high-security colony, NGS55 reported with reference to the press service of the Omsk FSB.

A Kazakh man was found guilty of committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by means of arson. According to the investigation, Moldakhmetov, together with another citizen of Kazakhstan, Seyl Muratuly (now he is wanted), set fire to the Omsk military enlistment office with Molotov cocktails on the morning of May 13, 2022. For the attack, he was allegedly offered six million tenge (about 800 thousand rubles) by an unknown person in a telegram.

After the arson, Moldakhmetov and Muratuly left Russia, but the former returned some time later and was detained at the border, reports Sibir.Realii.

  • On May 13, the local mass media reported on the arson of the military enlistment office building in the center of Omsk. Windows were broken in the building, traces of burning were visible.
  • After Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, there were attempts to arson military enlistment centers in dozens of Russian cities. As a rule, they do not cause serious damage, there were no victims during the fires. Russian investigative bodies and courts in recent months, however, qualify such requests as terrorist acts, which provide for long terms of imprisonment.
