The BBC and the “Mediazon” project were able to establish the names of more than a thousand mobilized people who died in Ukraine. Only four months have passed since the beginning of mobilization in Russia. The first detachments of the mobilized went to the front line after 3-7 days allocated for training. Many were trained in one combat specialty, and at the front they were required to serve in another, mainly in the infantry.

The names of the 1,082 dead mobilized people were established based on open sources: reports from the authorities and local mass media, as well as records of their relatives on social networks and data from cemeteries. Investigators emphasize that the real number of victims may be higher.

According to the BBC, 40 percent of all mobilized people, whose deaths were confirmed, died after January 1 of this year. Among them are 109 soldiers who died on New Year’s night as a result of shelling in Makeevka, Donetsk region. This is 20 more people than the Ministry of Defense has recognized.

49 of the mobilized died at assembly points and in military units, not having time to reach the combat zone.

In general, according to data collected by the BBC and Mediazona, on February 12, 14,093 Russian military personnel died as a result of hostilities in Ukraine. The authors of the project note that since the publication of the previous summary on January 27, 1,555 dead have been added to the list – this is the largest increase during the entire war.

“Mediazona” publishes detailed summaries with statistics by types of troops, regions from which the killed were drafted, and other details.
