Moscow State University transfers the accounts and data of university employees and students to the online services “My Office” and “Yandex 360” instead of Microsoft. This was reported by the director of the center for the development of electronic educational resources of Moscow State University, Denys Yanyshev.

Instead of Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype, MSU mainly uses such services as Penteo, “Yandex Telemost” and SberJazz, Yanishev added.

Earlier, Microsoft planned to close access to cloud services for companies in Russia from March 20. The decision was made on the basis of the 12th package of sanctions of the European Union, introduced in December 2023, which limit the supply of software for business analytics to Russia.

Later, the Russian group of Softline companies reported that Microsoft could postpone the suspension until the end of March, which would give time to set up an alternative infrastructure.

In March 2022, after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Microsoft announced the suspension of sales of products and services in Russia. In August 2023, it became known that due to sanctions, the company would stop renewing Microsoft 365 subscriptions for corporate clients in Russia. However, a large number of companies in the commercial sector continued to use Microsoft products.
