The Prosecutor General’s Office doubted the death of the crab king Oleg Kan

The Prosecutor General’s Office considers the death of businessman Oleg Kan, whom the media call the crab king, staged. TASS writes about it. During the session of the Arbitration Court, the representative of the department stated that the registry offices of St. Petersburg and Sakhalin region presented the same documents, according to which the death of the entrepreneur was not registered.

Kan’s death was announced by his lawyers and asked to close the case brought against him by the General Prosecutor’s Office. Oleg Kan, a fishmonger, is wanted for murder, and he is also accused of smuggling 2.6 billion rubles.

The defense claims that Kang, who left Russia in 2018, died of cancer in February 2023 in Great Britain and was buried in South Korea.

In Russia, the lawyers pointed out, an inheritance case has been opened, information about which is in the database of the Federal Notary Chamber. The RBC correspondent found in the FNP register a record of an inheritance case following the death of a person whose full name and date of birth coincide with Oleg Kan. According to the document, Kahn died on February 13, 2023.

However, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office doubted Khan’s death, since there is no record of this in Russian civil status records, and the businessman’s relatives did not contact the registry office.

The defense side, in turn, claims that the Russian registry office refused to register the fact of Khan’s death, although the relatives provided a death certificate issued abroad. The document confirming Khan’s death, the lawyer said, was handed over to the court office.

In February 2023, messages about Khan’s death appeared in Sakhalin telegram channels. However, then Kahn’s defense denied the businessman’s death, calling the publication “a deliberate intrusion.”

Oleg Kan founded the Moneron group of crab harvesting companies. Russian law enforcement agencies accused the company of understating the price of crabs during export in 2014-2015, and the businessman himself of smuggling and complicity in murder. After the appearance of criminal cases, Kahn left Russia. He was arrested in absentia and declared wanted.

TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak tried to buy a share in the company “Moneron”, her mother – senator Lyudmila Narusova appealed to the Supreme Court, when the Sakhalin court actually blocked the deal. Later, Sobchak was forced to abandon the purchase of assets.
