Navalny spoke in support of his arrested lawyers

Opposition politician Alexey Navalny, who is serving time in a prison under strict regime in the Vladimir region, spoke in support of the lawyers who worked on his case and those arrested on suspicion of extremism. Navalny’s statement was published on his social networks, in which he calls the arrests an act of intimidation. Navalny also called on the Russian bar association not to remain silent and to defend his colleagues.

He also stated that he considers his activity not extremism, but a legitimate political struggle “against illegal power.”
Three lawyers who represented Navalny’s interests – Vadym Kobzev, Igor Sergunin and Alexey Liptser – were arrested on October 13 on suspicion of participating in an extremist community. According to the investigation, the lawyers, visiting the politician in the colony, “ensured the regular transfer of information between the leaders, members of the extremist community and Navalny.”
Another lawyer of Navalny, Alexander Fedulov, announced on October 16 that he had left Russia. Lawyer Olga Mykhaylov, who also worked on Navalny’s case, left Russia earlier.
