New trolleybuses will be purchased in Khmelnytskyi: the EBRD provides a loan of more than 10 million euros

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provides a loan of 10.6 million euros to Khmelnytskyi “Electrotrans” for the purchase of new trolleybuses and equipment.

This was reported by the press service EBRD.

The funds will be directed to “Electrotrans”, a communal transport company.

Credit funds and grants will be used to purchase new trolleybuses with remote monitoring systems, spare parts and service equipment. The EBRD emphasized that the modernization of the trolleybus fleet will increase the reliability and quality of services for public transport users, as well as improve air quality.

Also, video surveillance cameras will be installed inside the trolleybuses and trolleybus stops will be modernized, the cost of which will be 1.5 million euros, which will be covered by the city along with the renewal of the traction substations and the modernization of the trolleybus depot.

The project falls under the flagship program of the EBRD “Green Cities”: Khmelnytskyi is one of several Ukrainian cities that joined the program worth 5 billion euros.

The EBRD notes that after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the city experienced a significant influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs), which created an additional burden on city services, so the bank assessed the needs of IDPs and took them into account in the action plan of the “Green City” program for Khmelnytskyi.

According to the IDP needs assessment, more than 60% of IDPs in Khmelnytskyi are women, and more than 90% of them have lost their jobs due to the war.

The EBRD loan is part of a wider financing package that includes an investment grant from the EU Neighborhood Investment Platform of up to €2.75 million and an investment grant of up to €1.7 million from the EBRD’s Special Crisis Response Fund, financed by US contribution.
