China is developing cyber weapons to gain control of enemy satellites, which could render them unusable for data transmission or wartime surveillance.

Such cyber capabilities, the document says, would allow China to “seize control of the satellite, rendering it ineffective for supporting communications, weapons, or intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems.” The US has not disclosed whether it has similar capabilities.
According to experts, China aims to disable the ability of the satellites, which usually operate in interconnected clusters, to communicate with each other, transmit signals and commands to weapons systems or send back visual and intercepted electronic data.
Now, given the irreplaceability of satellite communications for the Ukrainian military, Taiwan is seeking to develop a communications infrastructure capable of withstanding an attack from China.
Taiwan is attracting investors to build its own satellite provider and is also experimenting with non-geostationary satellite receivers at 700 points around Taiwan to guarantee data transmission in the event of war or disasters.
