Norway will not participate in fencing competitions if athletes from Russia and Belarus will be present. He writes about this based on information published by the Norwegian Fencing Federation.
“After the majority at the congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete again, the board of the Fencing Federation decided not to send fencers to competitions and championships with Russian or Belarusian participation,” the message says.
Among several issues that were discussed at the last meeting of the leadership of the Norwegian Fencing Association was the reaction to the decision of the International Fencing Association (FIE) to allow the participation of Russians and Belarusians in competitions.
As noted, the Norwegian Fencing Federation, after the beginning of the full-scale invasion, worked both at the national level and together with other Scandinavian fencing federations to ban the participation of all Russian and Belarusian athletes in competitions in order to demonstrate sympathy for Ukraine and the demand for peace.
In addition, Norway decided not to host the annual World Cup. Instead, the Federation will organize a second tournament in cooperation with Sweden and Finland.
The Ministry of Youth Sports of Ukraine has officially banned Ukrainian athletes from participating in competitions where Russians and Belarusians are allowed.
