Three-time Olympic ski and biathlon champion Anfisa Reztsova died in Moscow. She was 58 years old. According to Reztsova’s ex-husband, she was hospitalized on October 15, and she died in intensive care without regaining consciousness.
Reztsova has two “gold” medals in biathlon and one in cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics in 1992, 1994 and 1998. In addition, she was a three-time world champion in cross-country skiing and a two-time winner of the biathlon world cup. For a long time, she remained the only woman – a gold medalist of the Olympics in two winter sports at the same time. Only in 2018, her achievements were repeated by the Czech athlete Ester Lydetskaya.
In her interviews, Reztsova spoke harshly about the “down side” of Soviet and post-Soviet professional sports, mentioning sexual harassment, forcing female athletes to have abortions, and the use of doping.
Reztsova was married to fellow biathlete and coach Leonid Reztsov (her maiden name is Romanova). She has four daughters.
